That’s an average of $200,000 per blog for the first 500 blogs. That’s not bad at all :)

[...] Discovery Communications just bought eco-lifestyle blog TreeHugger.com, allegedly for $10 to $15 million. Then, TechCrunch published a recent study by the University of Texas (sponsored by Chitika) claiming that the top 50,000 blogs based on Technorati generated a total $500,000,000 in revenues for 2006 {download PDF here}. [...] Chitika just released a Blog Dollars Study (get the PDF here). A first attempt at estimating how much blogs made in 2006. And, based on their data, they estimated a total of $500 million collective revenue from the top 50,000 blogs (based on Technorati rankings). [...]

This is interesting. If you look at the study, the top 1% made $100 million between them, which is £2 million each. Blogging is getting to be really serious business.

Wow, apparently blogs will (or might already) outnumber people, so the competition will be pretty tough. People will expect incredible things…

It would be interesting to see what percentage of the $500 million the top 1,000 captures.

And here I thought getting a site to help pay for art supplies was exciting. If it really is possible to make a living from a blog - then I’m in. A good place to start might be here:

maybe I should offer some of the digital work for sale to help get the ball rolling:

Interesting figures, I’ve seen a lot of numbers for blogs and I started my ascension to the top, :). It’s not easy and definitely not for an individual joining the field late. If you can carve out an untapped market for yourself, the sky is the limit. My market is highly competitive and you can forget adsense revenue for some topics, it’s a joke even with a fair amount of traffic coming in.
You can find me blogging on politics at the White Houser site. I can see the lucrative potential of such ventures, but they really do require enormous amounts of energy, patience, creativity, and ambition. If you can’t pour all of those into a project with regularity, best look somewhere else.
Of course, sometimes being the first or having a truly unique idea or ideas will be enough to make a buck or two, but that too requires some brains and follow through.
Good luck everyone, see ya at the top in a few years!
