Chitika Graphic ads make way for CPC & CPM

March 10th, 2008

The power of brand advertising in the blogosphere makes way for more revenue options for your website. The days of considering user-generated content a marshland are gone because advertisers are not only looking at this as a channel for direct marketing (CPC) they are now leaning on the blogosphere to reach out to consumers and their brand advertising dollars (CPC) are following them. As a leader in this space we are barging ahead, bringing new products and services that best help our advertisers arrange these efforts that connect our publishers to more revenue-generating options.

CPM+CPC revenue
Last year we introduced CPM & CPC based advertising to our Premium Publishers, and now we are offering this combination to all our publishers. This new graphic ads service has one goal: maximize your revenue. The Chitika ad on your page will display a relevant and targeted banner/graphic ad on your page only when it makes sense – when it will earn you more revenue.

How it works
Graphic ads will pay per impression (CPM) and will be shown only when they can earn you more revenue than a CPC-based ad. Our ad targeting system will intelligently find and display relevant graphic (CPM) ads for your pages when appropriate.

Quick Q & A

When will I start seeing CPM + CPC ads on my website?
We are planning on rolling this out at the end of the month.

Will I be able to track my CPM revenue?

Yes. Your reports will be updated to display CPC and CPM revenue separately.

Will I be able to opt-out of the graphic (CPM) ad program?

Yes. You will be given the option to opt-out before the service releases.

We are very excited about brand advertising dollars rolling into the blogosphere. Check out some of the buzz already generated around this:

  12. Chitika Add Interactive Premium Listing Ads Into the Mix | Web 3.0 Technology.com Says:

[...] Posted on 15 April 2008 by Darren Rowse Here’s a piece of news that slipped through without me noticing while I was traveling last month – Chitika have announce a program to serve ‘graphic ads’ in your Chitika ad units when they feel that a CPM would earn you more than a CPC ad. The announced it back in March here and here: “This new graphic ads service has one goal: maximize your revenue. The Chitika ad on your page will display a relevant and targeted banner/graphic ad on your page only when it makes sense – when it will earn you more revenue. Graphic ads will pay per impression (CPM) and will be shown only when they can earn you more revenue than a CPC-based ad. Our ad targeting system will intelligently find and display relevant graphic (CPM) ads for your pages when appropriate.” I wouldn’t mind seeing these ads in action before I pass comment on them. For me it’ll all come down to the relevancy of ads as to whether I’d opt out of this program (they are giving publishers a choice to opt out). While the ads will definitely increase revenue on pages that are not generating clicks if the ads are ugly/irrelevant then they could hurt the look and feel of the page and reader experience. Also today I received an email from Chitika announcing another ad unit – Interactive Premium Listing ads. Here’s how they look: These ad units are not focused upon any one specific product and Chitika say that they work best when you ‘have mostly US traffic and are looking for a Chitika ad unit that is NOT product centric!’ Once again – these ads are going to be rotated in through all publishers ad units when Chitika feel that this ad unit will pay more than regular ad units. The exception is when you opt out of the program. What is displayed in the ads seems to be dependent upon what a reader searched for in a search engine when arriving on your site – so in a sense the are still targeted/contextually relevant but to the search terms of your reader and not necessarily your content. It’s a good concept and one to watch to see how they perform. Not yet a Chitika Publisher? Sign Up here. [...]

  18. jatt Says:

I just love the new features, however it has been a long time since i put my chitika ads on my blog. Hope this will be helpful..

  19. ElectroGeek Says:

It’s a nice ad unit but I would like to see the CPC payout on the Linx unit increase. My last linx clicks were at .11. The CTR for Linx has also been higher than any other ad units so any any improvement in CPC would be great!

  20. Vijay Mathur Says:

I’ve put the Chitika Premium ad on my highest traffic page, home page, but I rarely see the matching reward. In the whole of the month my earning is a paltry $0.14. In the same period with multicorner Google ads on differene pages I earned over $100 !!
I think chitika has to be more liberal and should try to show ads beyond a geographical region.

  21. webnatin Says:
