Online Advertising Cooling Off for “Big 3″ Search Engines; Heating Up for Chitika

November 18th, 2008

All across these crazy interwebs, I’ve been reading report after report of doom-and-gloom for online advertising companies.  A couple weeks ago I saw Glam Media change their payout process.  Since then, various sites have reported that even the big search engines are losing steam.

While TechCrunch reports a massive slow-down in growth for the “Big 3″ (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft grew only 0.6% from Q2 to Q3), we actually saw something quite different at Chitika - 200% growth from May - October.

Over these 5 months, our publisher base has actually doubled from 17,000-34,000, and in October we served 550 million search-targeted ads (out of over 2 billion total ad impressions) .  To put this in perspective, Ask.com (the world’s 5th-largest search engine) did 364 million search queries according to the August 2008 ComScore reports, meaning that our network almost doubled their amount of search traffic in October.

This leads to the question: Why is Chitika seeing this growth?  2 words:  Ad-Targeting.

Look lets face it Chitika is a lot better than adsense. It pays better and doesnt ban you as easily!

  2. ONLINE WEALTH BUILDING Says:

There might be some truth to it but you have to have lots of search traffic first in order to earn as chitika ads I suppose would be shown only to search traffic from the US and CANADA.

  3. Popular Wealth Says:

Not really, here’s a tip. Replace your website search feature with a Google or Yahoo powered search (available in adsense and YPN I believe) and the Chitika ads show up after any search made from your site.

As for comparing Chitika directly with Adsense I absolutely LOVE Chitika’s transparency. With Adsense it irks me that I can hire staff, write double the content, get double the clicks yet see the same income because magicaly the clicks were all worth half as much. That doesn’t happen with Chitika.

I’m sold on search based ad-targeting, it works and keeps the site clean for regulars.

  4. Big Geek Daddy Says:

So far I’m finding that Chitika is paying on average 45% less per click than Google is so I’m not completely sold. I also found that the code bumped my site data up as each time a web page was shown it counted it as a seperate view. I like the concept and will continue to use as Chitika is not even close to realizing it’s full potential yet.

  5. Antivirus for 2009 Says:

I just started loving Chitika after I began using the Premium ad type. The pay per click is a bit higher than the industry leader. At least I don’t get 1 cent per click from Chitika which is constantly happening in other networks.
