Important Change to Google AdSense Alternate Ads
April 29th, 2009
24 commentsAre you using Google AdSense as an alternate ad to display when a Chitika ad cannot display (for example - in non-supported countries, or for non-search traffic, etc.)? If not, then you do not need to even bother reading this.
However, if you are using AdSense as an alternate ad in a Chitika ad, then you will need to make a quick change to your alternate ad setup.
Google changed the way AdSense is served and it now MUST be on a page with proper HTML coding.
HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO MAKE SURE YOUR ADSENSE ALTERNATE AD SERVES CORRECTLY:
- Open the .HTML file that contains your AdSense code with Notepad or any other text editor.
- Place <html><head></head><body> before your AdSense code and </body></html> after the code - for example:
<html><head></head><body> <!--ADSENSE CODE GOES HERE --> </body></html>
This will ensure that your AdSense alternate URL will display properly. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us directly, leave a comment below, or post in our forums.

Great! I have spent one entire day trying to figure out why the heck the ad was not showing up. Will adding those additional tags make my site fail the W3 standards?
April 30th, 2009 at 8:49 am
@Raj - No those tags will not make your site fail the W3 standards. First, the ad is served through an iframe.
Second - having these tags is certainly a step up from not having any tags at all ;)

Thanks for notice, I’ll make quick change on it

I am using …blogspot.com. It seems that in blogspot.com I don’t need to add this, because your chitika ads show properly.

thanks for the notice :)

Thanks for the information, but then if I do it like that, the google ads will not be relevant, right? Since the main google adsense page will not have content at all.

@Josh - The good news is that Google is smart enough to be able to tell which page it is actually being served on (even with the proper HTML wrapping).
Try it out and see for yourself.

my adsense account not approved more than 3 months. Can I use chitika adsense ad?
May 28th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
Ryan, please help me!
I don’t use Google adsense, only Chitika ads. Which choice should I pick if I don’t want to use Adsense at all?
- Show a different ad (such as Google Adsense)
- Show Chitika Backfill (Chitika will show non-targeted filler ads)
Thank you very much!
I love Chitika!

Olga,
You should choose to collapse the ad unit into nothing for your non-search traffic if you do not want UNtargeted backfill ads to show.
This is also an option when setting up the code in your code panel.

Ok, Karla - your answer is: “You should choose to collapse the ad unit into nothing for your non-search traffic if you do not want UNtargeted backfill ads to show”
I got it! But I still have two choices:
- Show a different ad (such as Google Adsense)
- Show Chitika Backfill (Chitika will show non-targeted filler ads)
Which one should I pick, if I don’t have a Google Adsense account?
Can I use “Show a different ad (such as Google Adsense)”?
Thanks again!

Olga,
You don’t have to choose any of the other options, just the ‘collapse’. Then just click “Continue to Next Step”.
Does this help?

Also- you can choose to show another ad type besides Google Adsense.
May 28th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
Karla,
Wow! So fast! Yes, you answered my question.
About using another type of ad, I tried to use Kontera and AdBrite but not really happy with resolts. I think Chitika is much better. Do you have any advice on any other alternative ad type?
Thanks again for exceptional customer support!

May I show ChitikaMinimall ads on a Google site?
June 9th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
I am sending this again because I forgot to check the notify me box.
May I place ChitikaMinimall ads on my Google site?
June 10th, 2009 at 11:27 am
@Shish
ALL Chitika ad units are Google Adsense compliant.
Also, we have recently upgraded our eMiniMalls ad unit to Premium ad units, you can read more about that here: http://chitika.com/eminimalls-upgrade.php

Hi Karla,
How can I increase the number of Linx Ads per page? In Advanced Linx Settings I see only “Max Linx on Page” that means no more than…
Am I able to increase Linx ads to 20 (30.40. etc…) per page?
Thanks,
Olga
July 13th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Olga,
You can set that number as high as you like, however depending on the number of keywords our Linx inventory can match will determine how many Linx ads are shown up to the number you set.
Hope this helps,
-Karla

As to the HTML page serving Adsense as an alternate server: Wouldn’t that be placing Adsense code on a blank page, hich is not allowed by Google?
