MediaPost Article: Don’t Lose Faith In The Click
June 30th, 2009
10 commentsThis morning, a commentary I wrote for MediaPost’s Online Media Daily was published. The article is called “Don’t Lose Faith in the Click,” and it should make publishers feel better about monetizing their websites despite overall industry drops in clickthrough rate and pay per click.
The Internet has long been the place where advertising models go to die, but one measurable — the click — is still very much alive and kicking. As Mark Twain once said, “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” What we’re experiencing now is, rather, an evolution of sorts - online advertising is being pulled further and further away from demographics and readership rates and closer to intent-based targeting.

It still amazes me when you have the most trackable inventory available to all advertisers that web publishers still struggle

We have ads on our site which are click adds and also other peoples adds. What I find is, people are not clicking the adds that are click adds, in fact, today we have not had one single click even though our site is a very high traffic site, so I feel that affiliate adds are much better

Good info on PPC! Let this comment take as discussion, as I want to ask few some facts from you about pay per click. Do you think that pay per click is important for every webmaster? How much ppc expense (in percentage) of your income do you think is ok to incur? Actually, I have no experience about PPC, as I never used it for my websites and still I am gaining a lot of customers and sales. I am not going to say anything about my way of working because I do not want you to consider this comment as spam. But visiting my site can give you more information about how I am gaining thousands of customers in short time without PPC. I visited your blog because I am collecting information about the webmasters, campaigns and anything about pay per click that’s why when I saw your blog is great, I could not stop myself sharing something. In my opinion PPC is only beneficial if you optimize keywords and use the most relevant keywords only! Let this discussion going on? What are your views? Your Blog is really a great one! Maintaining a blog like yours is not an easy task, yet you did that! Congrates! - Any Comments? - Thanks - Regards
