It has long been common practice among digital photography manufacturers to announce new products in the time leading up to the PMA International Convention, held this year in Las Vegas from January 31st to February 2nd. According to digital photography review site 1001 Noisy Cameras, “it’s never too early to speculate.”

With PMA around the corner there is good news for bloggers, current market trends for the most popular digital camera brands are consistent across the board. This data reports digital cameras marketed towards prosumers; priced in the $100 to $1,000 range.

Amongst the current pre-PMA speculation, Chitika’s network reports Canon to be the most popular digital camera brand. Canon’s EOS 400 D, PowerShot A720IS, PowerShot S3 IS, and EOS 400 D Rebel Xti, collectively represent 55.91% of the relative top ten ranked on Chitika’s network over the past week.

Nikon came in second among Chitika’s online consumers, with the D50 18-55 mm Lens, and D50 28-80mm Lens, occupying 14.87% of the relative top ten.

1001 Noisy Cameras’ “Noisy Buzz” similarly reported Nikon and Canon among their top brands; ranking the Nikon D300, Nikon D3, Canon 40D, Canon 1D Mk3, and Sony A700 as top five models.

CNET similarly reported Canon as ‘Most Popular‘ digital camera brand currently on their network. The PowerShot SD850 IS, PowerShot SD1000, and PowerShot SD750, collectively represent the majority of the top five models ranked; the Nikon D80 and Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T100.

Interestingly, I found contradictory top digital camera brand trends while at this years CES International. I observed considerable buzz surrounding new Kodak, Sony, and Samsung digital cameras.

In the Best of Innovations awards, CES named the Kodak EasyShare-one zoom as winner in their Digital Imaging category. Sony’s Alpha dSLR-A100 won CNET’s Best of CES’s top Digtial Photo and Video award.

To all you advertisers and marketers; it pays to listen to the buzz. Pre-PMA speculation and product launches, clearly propelled concurrent digital camera marketing trends across the board. Consumers, product reviewers, and efluencers, look to major industry conventions to see what products and brands are hot; for industry marketers it is imperative to attend close attention to these show’s subsequent projected and reported trends.
