Recently, we have been testing our new behavioral targeting technology and the results have been fantastic – an excellent boost in CTR and eCPM. Because this is working so well, as of today, Chitika will begin implementing behavioral targeting for all Chitika ads, including eMiniMalls , MPU, Linx, etc.
What does this mean for you?
Sometimes, your Chitika units will now show advertisements that are targeted to each user. For example, if a user who is interested in “cars” comes to your site, your Chitika unit will show an advertisement for “cars”. This type of targeting has proven to be extremely effective, and will help you to earn higher revenues.
What do you think about this new targeting system?

It sounds great and this is the way that all the advertisers go to. It will take some time to see if it how it is working out.
By the way, I think that from time to time users will click on ads that are not usually what they like. Even if I'm interesting in cars, I might see a unique ad on mortgage and will click on that - even if I already got a mortgage.

Is there a way to opt out if we would like to do that?
Those of us with product specific sites (where each page is dedicated to a specific product) would probably like ads for that particular product to show up all the time... and also maybe ads that are related to that product. But I don't see how unrelated ads would work very well...
Thanks, Scott

These ads also worry me in terms of longevity so ill be turning them off too. I also run a one-product per page site so keeping the user experience focused is key. I need each guest to stay in a research frame of mind. Steve

Hi Scott - We STRONGLY recommend that you use this targeting, because we have seen that it works to boost your CTR and eCPM. However, if you really do not want to use it, you can read how to opt-out here. Hi Ryan,
Okay, I'll let it go for now to see what happens, however, when I look at my reports I'm getting quite a few Paid Graphic Ads listed in my Channels. I don't seem to be getting any money from those. I'm only getting paid for clicks on the regular channels/ads. Should I remove those Paid Graphic Ads or should I leave them?
Thanks, Scott

Thanks, Scott Hey Scott - again, I recommend leaving them. Right now, we are only showing graphic ads on your site when we can't make you money any other way, so if you remove them you will be making less.
As we improve the graphic program, you will see higher rates, and better ads. The goal is that our graphic CPM ads become competitive with our PPC ads - in that case, we will start to show them when they will make you more money. Our biz-dev guys have been working non-stop on this, and you will start to see this improve in the very near future.
If you decide to opt-out of the ads now, you will be missing out on some great revenue opportunities.

Hey Ryan,
Okay, cool... thanks for that explanation. I appreciate it. I'll just leave everything as-is for now and try to be patient. I'll concentrate on getting more traffic, which a never-ending quest.
Thanks! Scott

Scott, are you saying that the ads don't need to be clicked on? I'm not entirely following what's going on now.

Ryan, I noticed that most of the pictures being displayed have nothing to do with the listed product. This is occurring for all ad types now. Are you working on resolving this? It looks bad when a picture of a toy duck (or whatever) is displayed instead of a laptop. Also I really liked the old RPU's. I see the RPU code has gone missing for awhile. Is it gone for good and should we pull all the old RPU code? Thanks. You can see what I'm talking about with the incorrect photos being displayed here: http://electrogeek.com/blog
Thanks!

On chitka You get a picture of the product, a list of places and prices to buy, and tabs that give more information about the product when the user mouses over. --------- Junipher

Without leaving the page, the user can get a summary of the product, user reviews and a search box to look for similar products. That’s a heap of information packed into one ad. And users love the fact that they can interact with it. ---------------- Junipher

Not only is this exciting because of the ability to specify the type of ads you want to run, but Chitika is very aggressive and very interested in your success. -------------- Junipher

I sure hope that this new system works. My Chitika click through rates are way behind Adsense.
I'm sure you guys did your homework on this.

Hi there
Not sure if I've thoroughly understood the new set up... but as a Brit publishing for a worldwide audience, I want to be able to see my ads and keep a close eye on them.
My site is about green living and it's therefore really important to me that I'm not advertising (for example) air holidays which cause increased CO2 emissions.
I was happy with the old mini-malls (well, almost happy - you could never seem to really nail down what was being advertised!)
2 questions: how can I keep using mini-malls or other small ads that display everywhere - and when are you extending the Behavioural Targetting to the rest of the world?
Thanks for your help,
Rona from www.greenfootsteps.com
