How Chitika worked for me

How Chitika worked for me.
When I started my site, TheSansa.com 4 or so months ago, I decided to advertise on my site to try and get some money. I was already a member of Google Adsense and tried around with ads on the blog and the forum. I was unable to pick up that many clicks, and with the clicks I did make, I got 5 cents, if not less.
I then moved on and tried my luck with Amazon affiliates. I was able to get higher click rate, but people only rarely bought anything.

I had heard of Chitika on a few blogs and decided to try it out. At first when I only has 2000 or so page views, I got about $1 a day, which was already about 10 times more successful then the hardest attempts at both Adsense and Amazon. Eventually I found great keywords and my traffic started to soar. People wanted to go on my site and it was great. At this stage I only had Chitika eMiniMalls on my forum, and the revenue had steadied even as my traffic rose.

I then found the Chitika forum and got great site optimisation from some people on it, namely Ryan, who has been a great ambassador and extremely friendly, helpful and really knows his stuff. Hats off to him. At this stage I had optimised my eMiniMalls to earn me about 50% more. I have started to notice that the amount of revenue I earn is directly parallel to the amount of pageviews I receive. I have also recived a large amount of priceless information in the last few months due to Chitika’s great support.

The first piece of advice was to make the ads “above the fold”. I learned that ad blindness was a major problem with my website. The ads were too obvious and people have grown accustomed to simply look over the ads and disregard the eMiniMalls. I placed my ads under the advice of Ryan to place them in places such as under a blog post after the user has been reading about the products; they are more enticed to click.

Another piece of advice given to me was to find the right keywords. Finding the right keywords was probably one of the most difficult things I did. At first I simply put in one keyword like “Sansa”. This was a bad move because of 2 things. It would come up with the same product all the time. And shown that many times, the users became blind to those ads. This was also a problem because people on my site would already have a Sansa and wouldn’t click on the ad. I found something more like “Sansa Accessories” was more appropriate, and I then decided that rotating through different brand or products was good as well, like “Sansa Dock” or “Sansa Griffin”.

The final, and by far the best tip I got was the RPU: Related products unit. The RPU is absolutely genius and increased my CTR and revenue up by 300%! The brilliant thing with RPU was that they didn’t look like ads. I could pop them right under my blog posts and people that read the article are naturally inclined to click on the product to learn more. Thanks to Ryans great support, he sent me the entire code for me to pop on just like that. The next day I saw amazing results. Overnight, my CTR grew like a weed. It was incredible. Even when I was playing around with CSS and I made a mistake, the next day I got an email from Ryan telling me about it! Thanks mate  Cheesy

Overall I am extremely satisfied, not only with the service but more so with the great service, namely Ryan who has helped me make advertising on the Internet easy and satisfying. 2 Thumbs up.  Cheesy
