For any person who has attended or watched an Apple event in the past, it’s evident that the company’s leadership loves referencing statistics during presentations. As part of yesterday’s keynote address at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, Tim Cook mentioned several data points that were notable in his mind, one of them being iPad’s share of tablet Web traffic, and another being the version distribution of iOS on iPhones:
While the mentions certainly represent some nice validation at a tremendously popular event within the tech space, Apple’s inclusion of these measurements underscores the value of usage figures in today’s computing environment. Shipments or sales figures don’t provide the whole picture, and what Apple is looking to illustrate by calling out these data points are valuable behavior trends on the part of iOS users as compared to users of its competitors products. This is terrific information for developers to be aware of, and third-party usage statistics like those from Chitika Insights are one of the best ways to uncover these hidden trends.
